Old Hollywood Wedding on Catalina Island

I was thrilled when Alexis and Chase asked me to design their Old Hollywood themed wedding invitations for their Catalina Island wedding. The Avalon Theatre is the island’s iconic 1929 gathering place along with  Catalina Casino's ballroom—a big, open space perched above the harbor with tons of history! Every summer I went to Swing Camp Catalina to learn how to Lindy Hop, Balboa and Charleston. Dance instructors from all over the globe flew in every summer to teach. It was here that my love for swing dancing blossomed. It was such a treat to dance to a big band in a place where the likes of Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Woody Herman etc. all played. I met Artie Shaw at an art opening in about 2002 before he passed away. I told him I danced to his music and he told me he hated swing dancers because they didn't pay any attention to the band. Well, it was a thrill to meet him anyway! Of course I am digressing, so back to the wedding...

100 Layer Cake recently featured this wedding on their blog and you can read all about it here. The vintage details of this wedding are just so divine! The couple chose my Stardust wedding invitation suite and had me incorporate vintage images of Catalina throughout. My friends over at Paper Moon Shoppe even provided a paper moon backdrop for guests to strike a pose. Please check out the phenomenal photos by Ben & Kadin below. An Elegant Creekside Affair in Virginia...

Lucy and Taylor's wedding at The Mill at Fine Creek was an extraordinary day and was captured by the incredibly talented Taylor Rose Photography. I was lucky enough to be asked to design the Art Nouveau-inspired wedding invitations for their special day. The vibrant emerald green and ruby red colors surely set the tone of their special day and served as a subtle hint to the December holiday.

I adore the bold and straightforward color palette Lucy and Taylor utilized throughout their event. Often, I have clients come to me with five or six different colors that they would like incorporated into their stationery. Trying to utilize too many colors can come off as busy and can send a mixed and watered down message. But not this wedding... oh, so bold and beautiful, yet stylish and timeless!
